DC Curriculum Changes
Since the new IDC Curriculum, that specifically caters for IDC online candidates, was introduced, Course Directors in have been updating their own dive center’s IDC schedules ensuring that the schedule works for them. This 2010 update to the IDC curriculum comes after previous updates that occurred in 1985, 2001 and 2006.
The reason for the 2010 update to the PADI IDC Curriculum is due to the fact that PADI has now, in line with all other PADI courses, introduced part of the IDC online via their website, so you can do part of the course via the Internet., You are given an option to present the on-line presentations “live” as opposed to you having to do it online and then coming to a Course Director and presenting it.
The most efficient IDC curriculum will ensure that those who do the IDC online segment can do so, without wasting their time while others that haven’t done the IDC online segment have the live presentations presentations from the Course Director, or IDC Staff / Master Instructor.
One answer is to create a curriculum whereby all the on-line presentations are done in the first days and then go into the main curriculum presentations which everyone has to attend live, however this would cause problems if someone has done the IDC online option but wants to do the IDC Prep course which runs prior to the IDC. Another solution would be to have the online presentations scheduled prior to the idc-prep, this may be the most efficient option to allow for accommodation, students to book the minimum time off for their IDCs and for booking flights into their IDC location.
The IDC online segment does cost you extra and this payment goes direct to PADI so your Course Director should offer you a reduction to the IDC course ‘standard’ cost if you opt to do the IDC online segment.
